Where the Water Is the Way of Life

Punta Gorda is a city of roughly 20,000 residents in Charlotte County, on the southern shore of Charlotte Harbor between Fort Myers and Sarasota. It is the county seat and the heart of a region built around the water.

Punta Gorda Isles, one of the city's most established neighborhoods, features 65 miles of wide saltwater canals with direct boat access to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico. Nearly every residence has a dock. The city maintains several public boat ramps, including the Laishley Park Municipal Marina with 85 slips on Charlotte Harbor.

Charlotte Harbor itself is the second-largest open-water estuary in Florida at roughly 270 square miles, fed by the Peace and Myakka Rivers. Sail Magazine named it one of the "Top Ten Greatest Places to Sail in the US." The harbor supports over 450 species of fish, dolphins, manatees, and extensive seagrass beds. It offers more than 300 boating days per year.

The 2.5-mile Harborwalk connects several waterfront parks and provides a continuous pedestrian and cycling path along the harbor. Downtown Punta Gorda is walkable and growing, with a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Direct Gulf Access

Charlotte Harbor connects directly to the Gulf of Mexico through Boca Grande Pass, one of the deepest natural inlets on Florida's west coast. From most canal-front homes in Punta Gorda, open water is minutes away.

World-Class Fishing

Charlotte Harbor is a top saltwater fishing destination. The flats, mangrove shorelines, and seagrass beds support tarpon, snook, redfish, trout, and grouper. Sight-casting for tarpon on the spring migration is a regional tradition.

Marinas & Clubs

The Laishley Park Municipal Marina, Safe Harbor Burnt Store, the Charlotte Harbor Community Sailing Center, and several yacht clubs serve the local boating community with full-service facilities.
